Flat Rock is the home to some old mansions and estates, which were the summer get-a-ways for wealthy plantation owners in the low country around Charletson. Bub Hyder, Jeff Justus and Scott Mutchmore are proud to announce the opening of their third hotel in Henderson County, The Mountain Lodge, off Upward Road. This six million dollar project will provide work for 15 employees and allowed the opportunity to engage "home grown" effort from all of the sub-contractors and the general contractor, Carolina Specialties Construction, LLC.
The Mountain Lodge offers a state-of-the-art conference center that holds up to 150 people and a business center in addition to 64 suites with full kitchen facilities.

Visit the Carl Sandburg House - Connemara
The notable house of writer Carl Sandburg. This site is now a US Park, and is being expanded by recent Federal grant. Carl Sandburg was not the only notable American to live in this stately home. German born Christopher Memminger(1803-1888), Secretary of the Treasury for the Confederate Army from 1861-1864, had this home built in 1838 to escape malaria ridden Charleston, SC summers and 1860's war-torn Charleston.

Tailgate market to open in Flat Rock FLAT ROCK — The Village of Flat Rock will have its own tailgate market starting today in the parking area behind the Funky Bungalow and Silk Road Interiors along Little Rainbow Row.
The market will be open from 4-7 p.m.
The market will feature locally and regionally grown, organic or chemical free seasonal produce along with, fresh seafood from
Florida
, goat milk lotion, soap and cheese, eggs, herbs, plants, flowers, herbal vinegars, mushrooms and relishes.
The public is invited to shop the tailgate market, but it is by invitation only for vendors.
The market is being organized by local residents as a nonprofit group in an effort to provide in-season, local food to the immediate community. It will continue through the growing season of this year and resume next spring.
